Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine is a health care system that aims to prevent disease. It incorporates modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine, while optimizing the foundations of health which includes: nutrition, sleep, stress management, and physical activity.

The goal of naturopathic care is to find the root cause of illness rather than just treating the symptoms. This process requires time, a thorough case history intake, and may include lab testing and collaboration with other health care providers.

A range of different therapies and modalities may be used to address the physical, mental, and emotional needs of each patient. Naturopathic therapies may include: nutrition (diet or supplementation), herbal medicine, acupuncture, Asian medicine, and physical medicine.

Hormone Health

Female hormone imbalances are common. Most women go through life believing that certain symptoms such as "painful periods" are normal.

However, PMS, cramping, bloating, acne breakouts, migraines, irritability or mood changes may all be signs of underlying hormone imbalances.

Other women who experience menopause symptoms such as hot flashes or night sweats also believe that that is a normal process.

If you suffer from any of these symptoms, infertility, menopause, PCOS, lichen sclerosus, or fibroids, then naturopathic medicine may benefit you.

Reproductive Health

Naturopathy may help support fertility, regardless of gender. From pre-natal care to conception and post-natal care to lactation, naturopathic medicine may help support nutrition.

In addition, naturopathy may provide solutions for pregnancy complications such as morning sickness, digestive upset or heart burn, high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, and postpartum blues.

Naturopathy may also help prevent miscarriages by providing the body with the essential nutrients required for healthy fetal development and helping to balance the immune response.

The digestive system plays a crucial role in skin health, mood, stress, energy, and immunity. It is responsible for digesting and absorbing nutrients, as well as eliminating waste products.

It is nearly impossible to achieve optimal health without a healthy gut. When we suffer from extreme bloating, heart burn, indigestion, or constipation, it is difficult to feel good.

Naturopathic medicine may provide relief or solutions for digestive issues like IBS, Crohn's, colitis, GERD, gallstones, fatty liver, and constipation. IgG food sensitivity testing and comprehensive stool analysis are also available.

Digestive Health

In an autoimmune disease, your immune system mistakens self (your cells) with non-self (e.g. bacteria, viruses, etc.) and creates antibodies against your own tissues.

This results in a chronic inflammatory attack on your own tissue as if they were infected by something foreign.

A genetic predisposition, a disrupted gastrointestinal barrier (also known as a leaky gut), stress, a longterm inflammatory process, and the use of certain antibiotics may increase the risk of developing an autoimmune disease. Naturopathic medicine may provide ways to prevent and manage an autoimmune disease.

Laboratory testing may help provide a better understanding into your symptoms. When it comes to your test results, โ€œnormalโ€ is not good enough. I want to look at where on the range you fall and how your symptoms correlate to it.

In addition, it is important to know what lab tests are available outside of conventional care. These tests may help provide a better understanding into your case. The following tests are offered:

  • Complete female hormone testing (blood or urine)

  • Complete thyroid panel

  • Complete metabolic panel

  • Adrenal hormone testing

  • Comprehensive stool analysis

  • Heavy metal testing
